- The incentivized testnet launch sequence has begun: Jormungandr 0.82 is frozen, stake pool operators should pull it and configure over the weekend, and Daedalus installers land Monday.
- This is the birth of the Shelley era and the first major milestone toward decentralization, with over 150 stake pools already registered and rewards starting to flow.
- Getting here took a long road with delays and thousands of bugs, but the team shipped more software in six weeks than in the previous three months, and plenty remains before mainnet.

Broadcasting live from cold, gloomy Sweden, a quarter Norwegian so Scandinavia feels as much like home as Italy, and Stockholm is the right place to present Jormungandr since that is where the name comes from.
The incentivized testnet launch sequence has begun: Jormungandr 0.82 is frozen, so stake pool operators should pull it and spend the weekend configuring, with the Genesis hash shipping shortly and Daedalus installers ready Monday for staking from the command line or the wallet.
The incentivized testnet has been an incredibly long road with a few delays, was meant to be out in November, and is the most significant release since September 2017, delivered by a very different team with very different processes.
Thousands of bugs, hard design decisions, a new stake pool dashboard and Explorer updates went into this, more software written in six weeks than in the previous three months across the Haskell codebase, infrastructure, DevOps and QA, and the team plus the community deserve credit for it.
The incentivized testnet is a major milestone: the Shelley era has begun with people delegating, registering pools and earning rewards, a much cleaner start than the Byron era, though documentation, exchange conversations, ledger updates for cold staking and multi-sig still stand between here and mainnet.
